I make my own paints from natural materials such as iron oxide and titanium dioxide. Mixed with walnut or linseed oil the result is a non-toxic, plastic and cruelty free paint. I then often combine this paint on the canvas with water based clay to create resist effects. To thin the oil paint and clean brushes I use a non-toxic paint thinner.
Surfaces range from bamboo and hemp paper to organic cotton canvas. The majority of my brushes are second hand.
Clay sculptures are made from low fire white earthenware, the lower firing temperature reduces the energy required to create each piece.
Textiles are either 100% hemp of 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton (hemp is always organic). Dyed using 100% natural dyes such as chloropyll and ground madder, alongside age old dying techniques.
